A woman was kicked in the face during an assault on a train.
On Tuesday morning a woman was attacked by another woman on board a train bound for Preston.
It is believed the train had left Blackpool North and as it approached Kirkham and Wesham, the woman, who was unknown to the victim, launched a vicious attack which included kicking her victim in the face.
Police say the assailant got off the train at Kirkham and Wesham and officers met the victim at Preston train station.
They are now carrying out CCTV enquiries to identify the suspect.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "A woman was assaulted on a train yesterday morning by another female (stranger) as the Blackpool North service approached Kirkham and Wesham (where the suspect alighted).
"The assault included being kicked in the face.
"We met the train in at Preston and CCTV enquiries ongoing."
Anyone who saw the assault or has information regarding the identity of the attacker is asked to contact British Transport Police.
