A MAN threw a glass at a window causing over £900 worth of damage, a court was told.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Samuel Sears was taking out his "upset and frustration" following the sudden death of a brother who he was very close to.

And the court was told the death had come as a second body blow to Sears who had lost his dad when he was just 11 years old.

"He had great difficulty dealing with the death of his father and the death of his brother Len, to whom he was particularly close, has been exceedingly difficult," said Ian Huggan, defending.

Sears, 22, of Taylor Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilt to criminal damage to the window of the Oasis takeaway on Darwen Street.

He was made subject to community supervision for 12 months and ordered to pay £200 compensation.

Neil Standage, prosecuting, said the takeaway owner was working at about 10.45pm when he saw Sears in front of the shop.

"As he watched Sears threw a drinking glass at the window which shattered," said Mr Standage.

When interviewed Sears said he was upset by a family bereavement and he had been drinking all day.
