TWO town centre businesses had their windows smashed in the same night in a mindless act of vandalism.

Extensive damage was done to the front windows of the Miami Takeaway on Darwen Street, Blackburn, while Chaii Cafe also suffered damage.

CCTV video footage from Miami shows a male on his bike approaching the takeaway and smashing the front door late on Sunday night.

He then throws an object, which is believed to be a brick, at the main window, before pedalling off on his bicycle.

He did not gain entry according to staff, but has caused a lot of damage to the business.

The time-stamp on the CCTV footage of the incident showed it occured at about 11.13pm on Sunday.

The front door was boarded up this morning and the takeaway was trading as normal.

Nearby on Freckleton Street, the Chaii Café was targeted in the early hours of Monday (April 4) by a man on a bike who gained entry to the business only to find the till empty.

The close timings of the incidents, proximity and mode of transport used by the male suggest that it could have been the same person committing both acts.

While there was no cash in the tills at the cafe, cans containing loose change donated to charity were stolen.

The man first checked the door to a parked car before picking up a brick from land across from the premises.

He then launched the object at the front door. He later kicks the glass through before gaining entry and leaving glass strewn across the entrance.

The chic café has been one of the major success stories of town centre renovations in recent years, attracting visitors from across the county.

Lancashire Constabulary have been contacted for a statement on the incidents.
