A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a crash that closed a road for several hours.
The Long Causeway Road in Cliviger was closed shortly after 3pm on Friday for several hours after a crash between a motorbike and an SUV.
The collision occurred when, police say for reasons currently unknown, a Yamaha motorbike has entered the opposite side of the road and collided with a Seat Ateca.
The rider of the motorbike, a 20-year-old man from Burnley, suffered fatal injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Seat, a man in his 60s, suffered minor injuries.
A road closure was put in place for several hours to allow investigation work to be carried out.
Sgt Craig Salmon said: “This collision has resulted in a young man sadly losing his life and first and foremost my thoughts are with his loved ones at this extremely distressing time.
“We are now working to establish the full circumstances of what led to the collision and I would ask any witnesses or anybody with dashcam or CCTV footage which could assist our investigation to contact police as soon as possible."
