Blackpool Pleasure Beach has announced that its iconic rollercoaster, The Big One, will be reopening this weekend after undergoing a huge refurbishment.
After the ride closed for the 2021 season, visitors hoped The Big One would be open for the theme park’s White Knuckle Weekends, which kicked off in February - but this wasn’t the case.
Now, officials have announced that The Big One will officially reopen to the public on Saturday (26 March).
Over the last three years, the 213 foot tall rollercoaster has undergone a lot of maintenance work with parts of the track being replaced.
Andy Hygate, director of operations at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, said: “I am very pleased to announce that The Big One will be reopening this coming Saturday.
“Over the last three winters we have been doing quite a bit of maintenance work to protect the longevity of the ride, which involved replacing some of the track.
“Over the winter just gone we replace 104 metres of track which will ultimately result in a much smoother ride experience for guests.
“We’ve been doing lots of training, testing and I’ve had a sneaky peak of the ride and can confirm it’s been running very well.”
Earlier this year, Pleasure Beach fans were offered parts of the original track which date back as far as 1994.
However, the pieces of memorabilia weren’t cheap and some people paid up to £400 for a piece of the ride.
A new and improved The Big One isn’t the only thing Blackpool Pleasure Beach fans can look forward to this year.
A new feature is coming to Icon and two seats at the rear of the ride will twist and spin freely - all while the ride is in motion.
The new addition, known as 'ENSŌ', is a first for Europe and is set the make the UK’s first and only double launch rollercoaster even more thrilling.
