Fuel prices across the UK have continued to soar with the average price of petrol nearing £1.60 per litre.

Figures from data firm Experian Catalist show the average cost of a litre of fuel at UK forecourts reached 165.2p on Tuesday, up nearly 3p on Monday’s 162.3p.

The RAC said the jump was the largest on records dating back to the year 2000.

However, this figure is much higher at some filling stations where the cost of diesel has neared the £2 mark.

Forecourts across Lancashire are no exception. Petrol prices at Preston New Road’s station reached 195.9p for diesel and 176.8p for petrol on Wednesday (9 March).
