A Caribbean Carnival is back in Lancashire this year marking 48 years of brightening up the county's roads and parks.

The 48th Preston Caribbean Carnival will return to the city on Sunday May 29.

Following two years of Covid restrictions and no live carnival procession and park event, Preston Carnival Committee are pleased to announce that they're back on the road for 2022.

The committee received the exciting news that their application to the Arts Council England for funding has been given the go ahead and so they are now once again very busy organising the biggest and most colourful party Preston will see this year.

This year will be the 48th Caribbean Carnival in Preston and plans include a vibrant, colourful procession through the city streets followed by a Caribbean themed family fun day on Moor Park.

The week before the event it’s hoped a mini-carnival will pop-up in the city centre.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Local dance troupes are back in their studios preparing new routines and costumes to wow the crowds, along with visiting dance troupes who will display traditional large and small piece carnival costumes and dance their way from Moor Park down Deepdale Road, towards the city centre, left in to Meadow Street, St Paul’s Road, Sedgewick Street and return to the park via North Road and the Garstang Road entrance.

To ensure all troupes can take part in the party on the street, Preston Caribbean Carnival are supplying the trucks with sound systems and all safety equipment.

The park event will include live performances from Caribbean Latin band - July Julay, Levi Tafari, One Voice Community Choir, UK Soca artist - Soca Johnny, Phase One Steel Band, Kasia Masai and many more.

Caribbean and other food stalls, bar facility and lots of children’s activities, including creative making sessions and inflatables.

Celebrations start the day before with the One Park – Living Legends Reggae Festival, a ticket only event (see Skiddle.com tickets are £20+bf) and much needed fundraiser to raise some missing money from 2020 and 2021.

This line-up includes Tippa Irie, Little Roy, Chanel One Sound System and the headliner international award-winning Reggae artist Luciano supported by The Mafia and Fluxy Band performing live on stage for the first time in Preston.

The venue for the One Park - Living Legends event is Moor Park from 12noon until 9pm on Saturday May 28.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The Preston Caribbean Carnival is expecting around 15,000 visitors to join in the fun, celebrating the flamboyant, creative Caribbean culture within the city.
