A postmaster is marking 30 years with the Post Office, serving his community in three branches over three decades.
Barry Heeks and his wife Jill run the Adlington shop, and for a decade also owned a second branch in nearby Westhoughton.
Mr Heeks also managed the Sussex Road shop in Southport for eight years.
The postmaster, who turns 66 this year, is planning to retire and sell the shop and said helping customers has been the best part of the job.
Mr Heeks said: “You feel good when you help somebody, especially the older generation trying to do something they’re not sure of.
"The job is rewarding in that respect. There are quite a few familiar faces – a lot of them know me by my first name.
“You’re integral to the village. People recognise you when you’re out and about - which is good and bad I suppose.
“I’m happy being a postmaster. I enjoy the job.”
Once Mr Heeks retires from his decades-long Post Office career, he and his wife will be selling the shop - and the 130-year-old house it sits in.
He added: “It’s a good living for anybody who wants to take it on. It has its responsibilities, but it’s a good living."
Area manager Keith Blair presented Mr Heeks with his 30 years’ service award in February and said: "Barry is a fantastic postmaster who has gone above and beyond for the Adlington, Westhoughton and Southport communities during his career.
“He’s well-respected by his customers, and by the Post Office.
"I’m really pleased to recognise his commitment to his community and our organisation.
"Thank you, Barry, for your dedicated service.”
The Adlington Post Office is a stand-alone branch which also sells stationery and greeting cards.
Mr Heeks said it would make a great business for someone, as well as a fine home.
