HANDBAG thieves are on the prowl around Waterfoot.

Three houses were broken into in Booth Crescent between 8.30pm and 9pm on Tuesday.

Two handbags and their contents were stolen from two of the houses.

From the third, offenders took a wallet, and drove away the owner's blue Peugeot 206, registration PJ05 DZD, after finding the car keys.

At about the same time on the same night, a handbag was stolen when thieves broke into a house in nearby Park Road.

Sgt Chris Counsel, of Rawtenstall police, said: "All these incidents happened within half an hour on the same night so someone must have seen something.

"I would ask residents to make sure their premises are locked and secured at all times."
