A MAN who grabbed his partner by the throat during an alcohol-fuelled row only released his grip when her face started to change colour.

Hyndburn magistrates were told David John Holiday attacked Jane Bartrup again after they had both had a sleep, this time pushing her off the bed with his foot. He had been so drunk he had only a "hazy" recollection of the incident.

Holiday, 43, of Hancock Street, Blackburn, admitted assault. He was remanded on bail for reports.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said the couple lived in separate flats in the same building. On the day of the incident they had both been drinking when a row developed over nothing.

Miss Bartrup told Holiday she didn't know what he was talking about and suggested he go to bed.

"A third person who was also in the room says that at that point the defendant grabbed Miss Bartrup by the throat and held her so tight that he face started to change colour," said Mrs White.

Gareth Price, defending, said the couple had a volatile relationship and there were rows fuelled by drink.
