A man is swapping his market stall for a shop of his own as he decides to expand his delicatessen business.

The Stinky Chef, which imports goods from Italy and Europe while also serving homemade dishes, will get its own shop in Rawtenstall later this month.

Owner, James Gingell, said: “I would describe my business as an Italian-influenced delicatessen which serves good, home-cooked food.”

What started out as a recipe blog soon evolved into a full-scale business.

James, who co-owns Tre Ciccio restaurants in Ramsbottom and Altrincham, used his 30 years of experience of working in Italian restaurants to expand his deli even further.

He opened a deli in the basement of his Ramsbottom restaurant and moved to Rawtenstall Market in 2019, where he remained for three years.

Now, he is opening his own shop on Bank Street, Rawtenstall.

James, who lives in Bury, said: “Since opening in the market, the business has gone from strength to strength.

“It was a no brainer to move to a shop premises in order to progress it further. I can call my own shots there and serve exactly what I want without restrictions.”

It will be selling some classic deli items, such as cheese and antipasti meats, as well as serving homecooked food.

One of the most popular items, Stinky Bomba sauce, will be back on the shelves as well as their “ever-evolving” list of homemade dishes, such as porcini mushroom and potato soup.

However, customers can also expect some new and exciting updates. Local vegan chef, Nadia Wood, will be “bringing some vegan delights” along with her to sell.

While he doesn’t have an exact opening date yet, James hopes to be open later this month, urging customers to follow his Facebook page to learn more.
