A new state of the art gym opened recently and the Mayor of Rossendale has given it her seal of approval ahead of its open weekend, which starts today (25 February).
Thrive Gym in Rawtenstall welcomed Mayor Jackie Oakes and Mayoress Christine Lamb recently and they were delighted to cut the ceremonial ribbon at Orient One and declare the community venue officially open.
The pair enjoyed a VIP tour of the new New Hall Hey Road facility and even tested some of the equipment installed for members.
Cllr Oakes, Mayor of Rossendale, said: “I remember coming to this site when it was the former Kwik Save and it is quite a transformation!
“It’s great to see what the team has created. The owners should be commended on their work and thanked for their investment.
“It creates employment opportunities and is a great additional health and fitness venue for the people of Rossendale.”
The community gym will be hosting a free open weekend, which kicks off today (25 February) and will continue until 6pm on Sunday 27th February.
The facilities will be open and visitors will have free access to sample classes and a chance to meet personal trainers.
Prospective new members will also be able to come and train for free and try out the gym’s latest equipment.
Sebastian Walsh, marketing consultant, said: “We’re doing a massive opening event for the community of Rossendale.
“Thrive gym opening weekend is a celebration of what we have achieved so far and to make the community more aware of us.
“We’re going to have a lot of stuff on with a lot of free food samples.”
Saturday is described as a “jam-packed” day of celebrations with DJ Tom Mather and saxophonist Sarah Sax playing a set of house and funk tunes.
The pair will be spinning tunes and creating a stunning vibe as members train in the new facility.
The gym’s health and nutrition partner, Nutri Gains, will also be serving up treats throughout the day.

Live Physio Clinic with Altius Healthcare - 12pm-4pm
Skin Address, which offers 20 per cent off skin treatment bookings, will be avaliable from 10am till closing.
The 20,000 square foot purpose built gymnasium includes exercise studios, a gym packed with new cutting edge equipment including free weights and cardio machines, as well as creating Yoga, Pilates and HIIT studios.
The new Thrive Gym will also be equipped with a rehabilitation centre healthy food café with south facing terrace to transform the ‘gym’ experience for Rawtenstall fitness fans.
Sebastian said: “The gym focuses on health, fitness, wellbeing and the mind. We want everyone to feel welcome and like a part of a community at the gym.
“We’ve got everything under the sun in one building, including a wellbeing, health and beauty centre – and even a hairdressers which will be opening at a later date”
Martin Flunt, gym operator said: “This is a gym for everyone, regardless of your age, sex, shape or size, this is a gym created with the community in mind and no expense has been spared.
“We want families to feel that they can train together and will be encouraging youngsters to sign up to specially created classes to help promote health and fitness for young people.
“The Thrive goal is to create something the whole community can enjoy, to improve mental and physical health after what has been a year of struggle for many because of Covid.”
