POLICE are warning motorists to be more attentive after five separate collisions on the same stretch of motorway.

Shortly before 8am on Wednesday there was a three-car shunt on the junction 10 slip- road of the M65 at Padiham.

This was followed by three similar incidents in the Gannow area, all of which left only minor damage to vehicles.

A fifth accident, which saw a Ford Fiesta collide with a Renault Clio, involved a pregnant woman who was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Sergeant Ian Milnes, from the Motorway Police Unit, said: "I would urge drivers to pay more attention, particularly during rush-hour.

"Luckily in this instance nobody was seriously injured despite the high number of collisions."
