A MAN who was growing cannabis before he got a suspended jail term has been spared custody.

Burnley magistrates told Adam Mitchener, 21, there had been a small amount of drugs, and he had made full admissions.

Bench chairman Mary Thomas said: "We are not going to activate the suspended sentence as it would be unjust to do so.

"These offences were committed before you were given the suspended sentence."

The magistrates said they were not making the suspended sentence more onerous either.

Mitchener, of Crabtree Avenue, Waterfoot, admitted producing cannabis and abstracting electricity between last June and January.

He was sentenced to 50 hours unpaid work.
