PLUMBING apprentice Sally Bartle is celebrating after scooping the accolade Apprentice of the Year' at the Training 2000 awards.
The 21-year-old, from Rawtenstall, decided to ditch a more conventional career three years ago after leaving Haslingden High School sixth form.
Sally is now the only female tradesperson with Housing Pendle, the registered social landlord, after signing up for an apprenticeship with local work-based learning provider Training 2000 in summer 2005.
She said: "I was all set to go to university and suddenly decided I wanted to do something different.
"Plumbing seemed a good choice because it involved getting out and about and meeting lots of new people. It's a great trade to be in - I don't think I'll ever be out of work!"
Sally is now more than halfway through her apprenticeship and studies at college one day a week, while also carrying out plumbing repairs to Housing Pendle's homes Ian Rumsam, of Housing Pendle, said: "We are especially proud of Sally who has worked very hard to achieve this recognition."
