Michelin has announced its prestigious list of UK Michelin star Restaurants today (16 February) – and four in Lancashire have featured.
Three local restaurants have retained their Michelin star status from last year but there is also a new addition to the list.
The Barn at Moor Hall, in Aughton, has been awarded a Michelin star for the first time and is one of only 25 new additions in the UK.
The Barn is Moor Hall’s “sister restaurant”, offering a “delicious and varied menu, showcasing the best of seasonal dishes, as well as a great selection of wines & beverages.”
The Barn, which opened in 2017, is a charming, rustic setting packed full of character, with fantastic views out to Moor Hall and the lake.
The 65-seat restaurant, featuring original beams, rustic brickwork and an open kitchen, is situated on the first floor of a converted barn adjacent to Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms.
Head chef, Nathan Cornwell, said: “I am so proud to see The Barn win a star.
"As a team we’ve worked tirelessly to make The Barn what it is today and I’m fortunate to work with such incredible people and world class produce.
"Thank you to Michelin for awarding our restaurant with such a coveted accolade and, of course, our guests, suppliers, and team.”
Moor Hall’s main restaurant also featured in the 2022 list and has retained its two Michelin Stars this year.
This year’s Michelin Guide has also given a Green Star accolade to the restaurant, which recognises the sustainable practises that Mark and his team have put in place across the property to ensure the conservation of resources.
Chef patron, Mark Birchall, said: “I’m extremely proud of Nathan and the whole team in The Barn for achieving their first Michelin star as well as everyone that’s made achieving a Green Star possible."
Also proudly retaining their one Michelin stars this year is Northcote in Langho and The White Swan at Fence.
Lisa Goodwin-Allen, Executive Chef at Northcote, said: "Myself and the team at Northcote are extremely proud to have retained one Michelin star at this year's Michelin reveal.
“To retain our star all these years is such a huge achievement and one I'm really proud of.
“We strive to always maintain a high level of consistency, and I believe that's what Michelin look for.
“Despite all of the challenges we have faced over the past year, we have been able to maintain that consistency and we've done it in true Lancashire spirit, providing a dining experience that people really enjoy.
“The team deserve huge recognition for this, they work tirelessly day in, day out. I am very grateful to each and every one of them."
Since opening eight years ago, The White Swan at Fence has been scooping award after award.
As well as the Michelin star, it has two AA rosettes to its name.
The Wheatley Lane Road pub has also featured in Estrella Damm’s top 50 restaurants five times in the last six years; this year it was ranked at number 26.
Gareth Ostick, who owns the pub alongside head chef Tom Parker, said: “In eight years we have gone from being a little pub outside Burnley to being a nationally recognised gastropub”
According to Gareth, fresh ingredients and an evolving menu are the secret behind their culinary success – as well as Tom’s cooking skills, of course!
