Burnley entrepreneur, Dave Fishwick, appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain yesterday (15 February) to talk about the Netflix film which is being made about his life.
However, the charismatic man quickly captured the hearts of viewers and he became one of the show’s main talking points on Twitter.
Speaking on the news show, he revealed all about ‘The Bank of Dave’, which is based on the real-life experiences of Mr Fishwick, a working-class Burnley man and self-made millionaire, who fought against all the odds to set up a community bank so he could help the local businesses of Burnley thrive.

Dave said: “Well it happens all the time when you come from Burnley.
“I got this phone call about 14 months ago from Piers Ashworth, a lovely man who wrote Mission Impossible for Tom Cruise.
“He said ‘Dave, I wanna make a movie about your life’. We are looking for another feel-good movie, what with everybody having a tough time.
“He came to Burnley because that’s the only place I wanted to do it at. He said ‘Dave, let’s make it happen’ and then Netflix got involved. “
Richard Madeley asked: "How did they hear about you? How did they know you existed?”
“I’m Dave from Burnley,” Dave replied, eliciting a laugh from the presenters.
Dave added that the movie is set to be filmed in Burnley, a place he described as the “centre of the universe”, in the coming weeks.
He said: “There is gonna be hundreds of people turning up.
“How wonderful for the area to be given such a wonderful makeover and for people will see how brilliant Burnley really is.”
As the episode aired, viewers took to Twitter to comment on it – and Dave was one of the focal points, with many praising his charisma and calling him a “legend”.
"Make a run for PM @FishwickDavid I'd vote for you," said one.
Another person said: “I would happily Bank with @FishwickDavid what a fab guy.
“What a fantastic country we would have if you could pour a bottle of Dave on your cereal in the morning.”
“He is an amazing guy that should be on TV as much as Martin Lewis appears to be,” said another.
Another Twitter user said: “Honesty, openness, transparent, genuine. Doing the right thing by everyone in the community and showing East Lancs in such a positive way. Good on you, Dave.”
A fourth said: “Love you @FishwickDavid. Your enthusiasm and passion is a lesson to everyone - we all have an opportunity to ‘go and make a difference’ doesn’t matter how big or how small - just go and do it!”
Another said: “What an interesting guy, seems a real genuine old fashioned principled man. Obviously a business man, but not just out to line his own pocket. Has a great way with words, look forward to seeing the film.”
“He needs to be on the TV every morning,” said another “What a wonderful, happy man. Five minutes of him and I feel fabulous.”
Another said: “What a great guy and character. I'll be honest, I've never heard about him until now but what a great fella he is helping others.
“I'll definitely watch the Netflix movie about him.”
