BLACKBURN with Darwen Mayor Cllr Derek Hardman and his Mayoress Colette have given the official seal of approval to the latest fair to visit the borough.

The First Citizen and his wife spent Thursday evening at Fun Island on the site of the former Thwaites Brewery in Blackburn town centre.

The rides have been shipped in from Europe and the fair is open until February 20 during borough schools' half-term.

Opening times for Fun City are from noon to 9pm at the Penny Street venue.

The rides and attractions operate both pre-purchasable tokens (with special offers online) and visitors can pay with cash or card on the day.

The former brewery site has been cleared for a mixed-use development after being bought from Thwaites, which has moved to Sykes Holt in the Ribble Valley, by Maple Grove Developments Ltd and Blackburn with Darwen Council.
