TWO groups have been set up to help smokers kick their habit in Burnley.

The groups, set up by Burnley Council and East Lancs Primary Care Trust, will provide support on a weekly basis for eight weeks.

Starter sessions will take place on Tuesday, February 5 from 1-3pm and Wednesday February 6 from 10-noon.

Jane Summers, council workplace health co-ordinator, said: "These sessions are an ideal opportunity for those dedicated to quitting smoking, to help them access free guidance, support and treatment. We are encouraging any businesses in the town with staff who wish to quit to get involved with the team, and help them start seeing the health and financial benefits of being smokefree.

"I am only days away from my one-year anniversary since my last cigarette, and whilst it has been hard work to keep it up, it has been well worth it."

Participants will be able to sample nicotine replacement therapy and also learn about other treatments, such as Champix.

Anyone planning to attend should sign in at the Town Hall reception, Manchester Road, at the start of the session.
