Customers were left feeling disappointed and confused after bookings for the opening weekend of Chorley’s ‘Camelot Rises’ event were suddenly cancelled.
The zombie drive-thru experience, which is being held at Camelot Theme Park, was meant to open to the public for the first time at the weekend but organisers announced the cancellation on Saturday (5 February).
One Twitter user said: “I booked for Camelot Rises ages ago and paid – the day before I get an email saying it's been 'postponed' and to click a new link and re-book… do you reckon they have overbooked? I'm not happy.”
Another confused customer said: “Does anyone’s know why tonight’s event was suddenly cancelled last minute? So disappointed!”
Organisers have revealed the reason for the opening weekend cancellation and say a power outage linked to a “national shortage of power generators” is to blame.
The event is set to continue from Thursday (10th February) and customers affected by the cancellations will be contacted.
Russell Feingold, Events Director, said: “Last weekend's showings were postponed due to a power outage on site.
“We're currently experiencing a national shortage of power generators, with the majority of these being used at Covid-19 testing sites. Unfortunately, this has meant the events at the weekend couldn't take place.
“We have been in contact with the affected customers to offer new dates for tickets to be rearranged at no extra cost.
“We can only apologise again to ticketholders and we look forward to welcoming customers as we launch to the public this Thursday, 10th February.”
The fright nights will take place throughout February and March - at a cost of £50 per car - and will see horror fans park up in the grounds of the abandoned park to watch scary films on outdoor screens from the comfort of their cars.
A number of zombie films will be shown including Insidious, Annabelle Comes Home, A Quiet Place and Night of the Living Dead.
There will also be a bar and food stalls at the event for those who aren’t too scared to get out of their cars.
