PLANS to transform an East Lancashire town centre have taken a big step forward – and now your input is needed.

People are being asked for final feedback on the Haslingden 2040 vision and masterplan.

Rossendale Council announced last year it had successfully secured £1.8million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and would be putting in £200,000 contribution to the five-year project which will focus on Upper Deardengate.

Planned works includes a pedestrianised area at the northern end of Deardengate to create an event space, a town square with restaurants, cafes and outdoor seating, planting and artwork and investment in heritage sites within Haslingden town centre.

The council will also be offering grants to 19 buildings on Upper Deardengate for repairs to restore historical and architectural features and improve the sustainability of the buildings.

The designs have been shaped by the people of Haslingden from the results of the Haslingden 2040 consultation throughout 2020.

Creating spaces for families and communities to come together is a key feature of the project.

Cllr Adrian Lythgoe, chair of the Haslingden Strategic Board, said: “This exciting project will revitalise Haslingden town centre for residents, with new open spaces that will enable people to come together to enjoy events and bring new life into the town.

“We are planning an exciting range of community engagement activities and training opportunities and a community micro grants fund will be available for local groups and organisations to bid in to.”

The council is now asking for further feedback to the proposals to see if any adjustments are needed to the plans.

Sara Britcliffe, MP for Hyndburn & Haslingden and a member of the Haslingden Strategic Board, said: “A successful Haslingden town centre is important to me and would be beneficial for all residents and businesses in and around the town. Involvement from residents and business owners is vital and I’d encourage people to take part and complete the survey."

There will also be a stall on Upper Deardengate for people to give their views on Monday from 9.30am until 12.30pm, or you can email your comments to haslingden2040@rossendalebc.gov.uk
