A VOLUNTEER police officer has been praised by residents and bosses for his work in a Blackburn community.
Mill Hill resident Carol Walsh wrote to the Lancashire Telegraph to thank special constable Ron Pickering for his tireless efforts.
Special constable Pickering is part of a team of officers covering the Galligreaves, Witton and Griffin areas.
Mrs Walsh, of Portland Street, said: "I was amazed to see what a special constable does.
"Ron gives up a lot of his time to work alongside the police officers in the Griffin area. He does this out of the goodness of his heart.
"He does not get paid for his work and his attitude to the job is second to none. I'd like to thank Ron for his dedication.
"Without citizens like Ron who do this I'm sure areas would struggle to make an impact.
"I would like to say well done Ron and keep up the good work, it is appreciated."
Mrs Walsh's words were echoed by special constable Pickering's supervisors.
Sergeant Colin Dassow, responsible for the Mill Hill area of Blackburn where special constable Pickering works, said: "He is a good all round dedicated special. He turns up regularly and is very much part of our neighbourhood team.
"He is sensible, practic-al, level headed and works on his own initiative.
"I am pleased that he has been recognised for the excellent work he carries out."
Mr Pickering did not want to comment.
