Plans to bring a new pump track to Rossendale have been approved by the council.

An application was submitted to Rossendale Borough Council in December from Proffits CIC, seeking permission to bring a new recreational area and pump track, with beams and jumps to Exchange Street in Edenfield.

Last week, the council granted planning permission for the track to be built on open recreation ground just north of Exchange Street, comprising of two areas, one for beginners and one for advanced users.

The decision report stated: "Following consideration of the application in respect of the proposal outlined above, it was resolved to grant planning permission for the following reasons

"The proposed scheme is appropriate in principle and subject to conditions, the scheme is considered acceptable in terms of visual and neighbour amenity, highway safety and all other relevant material planning considerations.

"The development therefore accords with the National Planning Policy Framework and Policies of the Local Plan."

A letter from Proffits noted that the CIC had been working alongside the community of Edenfield, Edenfield Residents Association (EVRA) and Rossendale Council officers for several years, looking at the ways to improve facilities for young people in the village.

The letter read: "A community wide consultation was carried out in March 2015 to determine the needs of the community and young people and to get feedback on the existing play facilities.

"Additional consultation was carried out during 2019 and again following the pandemic in March 2021 to refresh earlier consultation and to help shape proposals for the site.

"Results showed that the community would like play facilities improving generally but that a focus on older children and young people was needed more immediately as existing play facilities cater for a younger

audience."

The project has been shaped by the views of the community and has been tailored to focus on provision for young people.

The pump track proposals provide space for physical activity, for young people to come together and to enjoy being outside together.

Work should start on the track within the next three years, but an exact date for commencement is not yet known.
