The ‘poshest’ and ‘most desirable’ villages in the UK have been revealed in a recent report.
According to the Savills research, one village stands out as the poshest in Lancashire and one of the most desirable in the UK.
The data is based on a combination of house prices, lifestyle amenities, transport connectivity and ‘chocolate-box’ appeal.
According to the findings, Great Eccleston was the only Lancashire area to make the list and this was largely thanks to its central location and exclusive events.
The area, which is located on the coastal village of Fylde, was highlighted as a “walking country” with plenty of good pubs to choose from.
The Farmers Arms in Halsalls Square, is one of the most popular pubs in the area and describes itself as a “traditional country pub” with a “contemporary feel”.
The pub boasts five open fires and a sheltered and heated courtyard for all-weather al fresco dining.
According to the findings, the village certainly isn’t short of curb appeal with “cute cottages” and “handsome houses” at every turn.
The average house price in Great Eccleston certainly suits the ‘posh’ bank balance, sitting at £430,630 which is 121 per cent higher than the current average house ‘sold price’ in Lancashire as a whole (£194,777).
Another important factor, which lead to the village’s inclusion on the list, is the annual agricultural show.
The Great Eccleston show is a two day event and is a showcase for every aspect of rural endeavour and the whole range of crafts and skills associated with the country.
A highlight of the show is the tractor-pulling show – although the ‘companion’ dog show is also a crowd pleaser.
The next event takes place on 16 and 17 July 2022.
The fortnightly farmers’ market also received a special mention in the report.
The farmers' market runs alongside the regular, weekly market which is a bustling part of Great Eccleston village life.
You can pick up fruit and veg all locally grown, fresh fish, flowers and household items, to name but a few, from the market square location.
Boutiques, such as MMJ’s clothing on The Square, also received a special mention.
The central location is within easy reach of the surrounding major towns and cities of Blackpool, Lancaster and Preston.
