An actor who grew up in the Ribble Valley stars in hit Netflix series Emily In Paris - and his character is winning over fans.
Lucien Laviscount, from Read, is the newest heart-throb to appear in the second series of the comedy-drama series which has topped Netflix’s top 10 list in 94 countries since airing in December.
The show is centred on marketing executive Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, who is hired to provide an American perspective at a marketing firm in Paris.
Lucien plays Emily’s love interest, Alfie, a British expat who she meets in French class.
“He comes from London and unlike Emily is totally disinterested in Paris,” says series creator Darren Star.
“He really doesn’t want to be here, doesn’t find the country appealing, and is only here for his job. When they meet in French class, they’re really opposites, but they’re still both outsiders in a new city. That connects them.”
Speaking to Tatler back in December, Lucien explained how he got into character for the show.
He said: “I approached Alfie’s character as just a lonely guy in Paris who just doesn’t want to be there.
“I’m from the north of England and I imagine that if you dropped me anywhere in the world and I felt lonely, I would develop my own defence mechanism—like Alfie’s sarcasm.”

After binging the second series, fans took to Twitter to express their admiration for Lucien's character.
One person said: "I swear if the writers of Emily in Paris break Alfie’s heart I will stop watching, he was so much better for Emily and a much better man."
Another said: "Alfie is why I watch Emily in Paris."
"Finally caught up with Emily In Paris and I’m team Alfie," said a third.
Netflix bosses confirmed that Emily In Paris will return for two more seasons but it has not yet been confirmed if Lucien will be part of the cast.
At age 10, he landed a modelling campaign with Marks and Spencer, which he shot alongside David Beckham.
It is not the first time that the former Ribblesdale High School and Clitheroe Royal Grammar Sixth Form pupil has been on our screens.
He starred in several TV series and soaps between 2007 and 2011, including Grange Hill, Coronation Street and Waterloo Road.
Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph in 2006, Lucien said: “Hopefully I will be in Grange Hill for a few years and after that I want to get into films.
“I would love to make it big in America or Britain”.
Back in 2011 he also landed a place in Celebrity Big Brother and came fifth overall. In the reality show, he made headlines for his persistent flirting with The Only Way is Essex's Amy Childs.
He has also branched out into the world of American dramas, starring as Earl Grey in Fox’s Scream Queens and Alexander Caboot in Katy Keene.
In 2021, he also starred alongside Victoria Justice in Trust where he played a British artist called Ansgar.
Lucien is rumoured to be dating former Little Mix singer, Jesy Nelson – although the pair have not addressed these rumours publicly.
