BEAT bobbies in Rawtenstall are to feature in a prime-time documentary series.

'Beat: Life on the Street' follows PCSO Pauline Cadman and Rossendale south Community Beat Manager Gareth Henderson as they patrol Rawtenstall, build relationships with the community and deal with low-level crime and anti-social behaviour.

This is the second series of the programme, which also follows officers in Preston and other parts of the country.

Lancashire Chief Constable Steve Finnigan said: "This programme helps to highlight just some of the outstanding Community Beat Managers and PCSOs we have working at the heart of each and every neighbourhood in the Constabulary, officers who are at the forefront of delivering neighbourhood policing.

"We work hard with our partner agencies at a local level to ensure that problems are addressed as effectively as possible as part of our approach to neighbourhood management and this show highlights much of the unsung work which many of our officers and staff are engaged upon day-in and day-out."

The series is supported by the Home Office and also features Preston officers Sgt Tony Murphy, PC Abid Majid, and PCSO Jackie Fulham in Preston and beat bobbies from Thames Valley Police in Oxford.

Supt Sarah Oldham, from Pennine Division, said: "PCSOs and community officers do some fantastic work in our local areas and it is nice to see them getting some positive coverage for once and highlighting some of the good work they do."

The programme starts on Sunday on ITV.
