ORGANISERS of a comedy club left 'homeless' are appealing to pubs and clubs in an attempt to keep the laughter going.

The One Night Stand comedy club was attracting up to 70 people during its monthly stint at the Saint Mary's Centre, Church Street, Clitheroe.

But it has been told to find a new home due to uncertainty surrounding the future of the venue.

Now compere Dave Twentyman, from St Helens, along with fellow organiser Martin Crabtree, of Rishton, are hoping they can find a new place in the town to hold the event.

Dave, who performs all over the country, said: "We are appealing to suitable venues in Clitheroe that have the right facilities and sound system.

"We'd like to hold it at one venue so people know where and when the comedy nights are happening.

"It's a shame what happened at the St Mary's Centre because we had just got it going and a regular audience was turning up.

"We could see the event growing and word was spreading and that's how these things mostly start."

Clitheroe-based charity, Trinity Community Partnership, runs the centre but doubts have been raised over its continuing involvement after it failed to secure funding from the North West Development Agency to buy the building.

Ribble Film Club has also been told it can no longer use the hall.

Dave said the comedy club was starting to attract some of the UK's top up-and-coming comedians such as Greg Cook, Mike Wilkinson, Seymour Mace from Johnny Vegas' BBC TV show Ideal and Sully O'Sullivan from New Zealand.

He added: "They were lovely and always up for it.

"There were a few of the older ones at the back who you couldn't crack but then again they kept coming back."

The club had been running regularly at St Mary's Centre since last autumn and on a less frequent basis previous to that.
