MORE than 200 off-duty Lancashire police officers are expected to join a London march to protest at their latest Government pay offer.

More than 15,000 officers will take part in the Police Federation march through Westminster.

Steve Edwards, chairman of Lancashire Police Federation, said: "There is an unprecedented feeling of anger and mistrust of the Home Secretary amongst police officers.

"Many feel that they have been let down and undervalued by a Government that time and time again publicly praises police officers and the jobs they do yet bullies us into an unfair, unreasonable and unjust pay settlement."

Police officers were angered by the decision not to pay in one go their 2.5 per cent annual pay rise which was agreed at arbitration.

Officers say awarding the rise in two parts amounts in real terms to an increase of just 1.9%.

It prompted the Police Federation to call for home secretary Jacqui Smith to resign and for the organisation to say it will ballot members in 2008 on whether they want the right to strike.

Police officers across the UK are currently banned from taking industrial action.

More than 200 MPs have signed a House of Commons motion protesting that the rise should be paid in full.

The rally takes place on Wednesday.
