A MAN stopped by police after driving through a red light late at night was found to be more than three times the drink drive limit.

Blackburn magistrates heard the inevitable driving ban would have serious consequences for Colin Woods, who works as a taxi driver.

Woods, 59, of Edmund Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was remanded on bail for the preparation of a pre-sentence report.

Claire Knight, defending, said Woods had stopped to watch football in the pub and got drinking with friends.

"He stupidly got in his car to drive home," said Miss Knight. "He accepts it is his own fault, but he will be losing his employment as a result of this."
