COUNCILLORS in Pendle have urged highways chiefs to do more to assist people who live along unadopted roads across the borough.
Borough council members of the Lancashire Local Pendle Committee has called upon County Hall to be more helpful when problems are identified on roads, even if they are not their responsibility.
Flooding and pothole problems were being reported on unadopted roads but complaints from residents were falling on deaf ears, the committee was told.
Coun David Whipp, committe chairman, said: "I think we need a change of scripts for people in the county council's contact centre.
"Even if the county council is not prepared to do something for people they can give sensible advice about what they should do."
Councillors also say that getting unadopted roads officially recognised and maintained in recent years has proved impossible.
Pendle has more than 57km of unadopted roads - around 11 per cent of the total road network.
