A GROUP of 11 students and two adults were rescued from a cave after they became trapped.
The students aged 17 to 20 from Craven College in Skipton became trapped by fast flowing water in Dow Cave near Kettlewell, North Yorkshire.
Two of the four adult leaders managed to wade out of the cave and alert emergency services.
Shortly after the call was made at around 3.45pm on Friday the police, fire service, ambulance service and Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association arrived at the scene and rescued the trapped youngsters.
No one was hurt in the incident which was over in three hours.
The students and the adult leaders were taken to the Blue Bell in Kettlewell where they were checked over by medical staff .
They were then driven to Craven College to be reunited with their families.
Craven College principal Alan Blackwell said: "I was notified immediately by my staff and was reassured that they had taken the students to an area of the cave which never floods and offered a safe haven.
"They kept the students in this safe area until the rescue services arrived.
"I will personally oversee an inquiry into the events leading upto the incident."
