Two independent businesses in Colne have recreated a scene from the iconic Christmas movie, Love Actually.

Representatives from interior design store, Live Like The Boy, and local software company, GB Integrated Systems Limited, put their acting skills to the test by replicating the scene in a funny video.

Fans of the movie will recognise it as the ‘would you like it gift wrapped’ scene from the original movie.

In the scene, Alan Rickman's character, Harry, is buying a necklace for his mistress while his wife is shopping for presents in the same department story.

In a comedic turn of events, Rowan Atkinson’s character takes an extended amount of time to wrap the gift – making Harry wish he had never asked for the gift wrap option.

Owner of Live Like The Boy, Ashley Sutcliffe, said he wanted to take part in the video for the good of the high street- but insists that he won’t be changing careers any time soon.

Ashley, who played Rowan Atkinson’s part, explained: “I was asked if I wanted to take part in a scene from a Christmas film and I was asked if I wanted to do the gift wrapping scene and I thought ‘well isn’t that fun’.

“I cringed and little bit and thought ‘do I really want to do this?’

“But I thought it’s all for the good of the town and if it raises a smile and brings some focus to our high street then it is all worthwhile.”

“Despite the lovely response I have received, acting is not my bag,” he joked “I’m definitely more of a shop keeper.”

Communications and Delivery Manager at GB Integrated Systems Limited, James Whipp, played Alan Rickman’s character.

He explained: “It was eventful and something new – I have never acted before. I only read the lines twice before we shot the scene.

“I don’t have any plans to become an actor after the back of the feature,” James joked.

I think I need a little more practice before I do that."

“I’m glad it has brought some joy to the community and made people laugh," he added.

“With these trying times it’s important for people to have a laugh”.

Many people have taken to the comment section to talk about the video.

Joyce Bulloss said: "I just watched Love Actually last night! Well done Ash

Sam Gray said: "James Whipp I see a career change on the cards mate... Hollywood."

Joanne Greenwood added: “Hahaha love it! Lovely”

“Funny!” wrote Jacki Blackburn, while Ms Kay simply wrote "Fantastic".

The video is the first of three festive movie scene remakes being created by Colne Bid; the short films were made using some of the government’s welcome back funding.

The next two videos will be released later this week and will focus of scenes from Elf and Home Alone.

Colne Bid officer, Aneesa McGladdery, said: “It’s been really positive… at first I thought no-one would like it but people have been loving it and find it so funny.

“I just think it’s so refreshing to see a video like that opposed to your standard promotional video.

“I think it shows that each individual business has their own personality which in turn reflects the quirky personality of our town.

“It’s so important to support our independent businesses post-covid.”

Colne Bid have been taking organizing plenty of festive activities this year and have even created a Christmas gift guide which is available on their website.

In it, local businesses will share their own unique recipes, such as how to make an Espresso Martini.
