A DRUNKEN refuse collector who assaulted his wife will be getting a community order to tackle his alcohol problem - and has vowed not to touch a drop again.
Burnley Magistrates heard how father-of-two Anthony Allum, 27, fell out with victim Kelly Allum, kicked drawers and a table and then punched his wife twice on the head whilst she was sitting in an armchair.
The defendant was later interviewed by the police and accepted he had been drunk.
Allum, of Bradshaw Street, Nelson, admitted assault by beating on January 5 and was bailed for a pre-sentence report to look at supervision.
Bill Maude, prosecuting, told the court both the defendant and victim had been at their home and Allum had been drinking.
A friend called and she saw the row. Mrs Allum had not made a statement and did not support the prosecution.
Nick Dearing, defending, said the Allums had been married nearly 10 years. Mrs Allum had forgiven him, but he did not believe that in any way excused what he did.
The defendant, who worked for Pendle Borough Council, had told police he would never drink again and would get any help he could to make sure his wife was safe at his hands.
