A yellow weather warning is in place across Lancashire today (26 November) and tomorrow (27 November) forcing councilors and organisers to alter and cancel some outdoor events across the county.
An outdoor ice rink in Blackpool will close for a short time and the fireworks display from Padiham’s Christmas light switch-on may also be cancelled.
According to the Met Office, a yellow weather warning is in place for parts of West Lancashire – including Blackpool.
This evening, wind speeds of up to 62mph are forecast for the coastal town.

As a result, the outdoor ice rink in the Christmas By The Sea village will be closed this evening (26 November).
A Visit Blackpool spokesperson said: “Due to a forecast of high winds along the coast on Friday evening (26 November), the skating rink in the Christmas By The Sea village on the Tower Festival Headland will be closed for safety reasons.
“We hope to reopen the rink for some of the remaining sessions this weekend, but please check our website for further updates.”

An East Lancashire event may also be impacted by the storm and Padiham Councillors say it may cause safety concerns for their Christmas Countdown event.
The Padiham Christmas event is set to take place tomorrow (27 November) from 11am until 5pm.
They plan to have fireworks, Christmas lights, a fun fair and Christmas markets.
There will also be street entertainment and even a festive snow globe.
However, the weather has altered organsier’s plans; while it is not cancelled the grand finale fireworks could be.
Padiham Town Councillor, Steve Watson said: “We were hoping for a bigger and better event this year but due to weather conditions things won’t be quite as we anticipated.
“We are aware of the weather and we have contingency plans in place should things need to be adjusted.
“The firework company will judge the safety aspect on the day. If they believe there are any safety concerns then the fireworks will be cancelled.”
“We are moving our snowglobe to an indoor setting – it was due to be inside and we are now having an uncovered stage without cover.
“However, it will still be an excellent and fun day out for the family.”
