HEAVY snow is set to hit parts of East Lancashire overnight – while the rest of the county will experience strong winds, icy chills and spells of rain.
According to the Met Office, snow will fall from around 8pm this evening in Rossendale and will continue through the night. Temperatures could fall as low as minus eight degrees in parts.
A yellow weather warning for wind is also in place across most of the county and will last until Saturday.
The national forecaster has said that high winds could cause some travel disruption and damage.
On the weather today a spokesman said: “Rain clearing the region by mid-morning with brighter skies and blustery showers following, primarily along the coast. Widely windy, with Storm Arwen bringing an increasing risk of gales for exposed coasts. Maximum temperature 9 °C.”
For tonight they added: “Winds strengthening through the evening, with severe gales along coasts and over high ground overnight. Outbreaks of rain spread southwards through the night, turning wintry over high ground. Widely frosty. Minimum temperature -1 °.
