The Met Office has issued a weather warning for strong winds later this week – and the whole of Lancashire is included in the yellow warning.

Some parts of Lancashire could see 48mph winds at the weekend as some “very windy weather” sweeps in.

Met Office forecasters say transport delays will be “likely” and there is also a “slight chance” that power cuts may occur.

What to expect from a yellow weather warning

According to the Met Office, here are some things you might expect from a yellow weather warning of wind:

  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
  • There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

When are strong winds forecast in Lancashire?

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Things are becoming unsettled in the North West on Friday and Saturday with periods of strong winds and rain, also continuing to feel rather cold.”

Across most parts of Lancashire, the yellow weather warning comes into place on Saturday (27 November).

However, for some more coastal towns in parts of West Lancashire the weather warning comes into force on Friday (26 November).

Wind speeds are expected to reach up to 48mph in some parts of the county on Saturday.

What is the weather forecast in Blackburn with Darwen?

For towns in East Lancashire, the yellow weather warning for wind comes into place on Saturday and wind speeds of up to 40mph are in forecast.

Temperatures are also expected to dip below freezing this week making those strong winds feel extra cold.

Temperatures are set to reach around 8°C.

Thursday 25 November

Thursday morning is set to be filled with clear skies and sunshine.

However, don’t forget your winter coat is temperatures are set to reach a maximum of 4°C and even expected to dip below freezing.

Friday 26 November

Heavy rain is on the cards for Friday with soggy weather expected from 9am right up until 9pm.

Temperatures will reach highs of 7°C and the wind will start to pick up in the afternoon, reaching 36mph in the morning.

Saturday 27 November

Saturday is when the weather warning is in place.

Wind speeds in Blackburn with Darwen are set to reach speeds of 40mph in Blackburn with Darwen and will be at their strongest between six and nine in the morning.

Temperatures are set to peak at 4°C but the biting winds will make it feel more like -2°C.

Sunday 28 November

The wind is expected to have died down by the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is predicted to be partly cloudy changing to sunny intervals by late morning.

Temperatures will reach 3°C between midday and 3pm dropping to 0°C from 6pm onwards.
