The highly anticipated new road, named after Blackburn's billionaire Issa brothers will 'unofficially' open on Monday.

Blackburn with Darwen Council have said that to coincide with the closure of the bottom of Blackamoor Road, Issa Way will open on Monday November 22 from 1pm.

The closure at the bottom of Blackamoor Road is being carried out in preparation for its permanent closure as part of the new road layout scheme.

The council said that as a result, from Monday November 22, all through traffic is to use Issa Way to the junction of Newfield Drive, with people able to use Blackamoor Road for access only.

As expected, there will be temporary traffic signals put in place until new permanent ones can be finished.

A spokesperson for the council's roads department said: "Changes to Issa Way and Blackamoor Road from Monday November 22

"This is the moment a lot of people have been waiting for - Issa Way will open (unofficially) on Monday November 22 from 1pm.

"This will coincide with the closure of the bottom of Blackamoor Road for its permanent closure as part of the scheme.

"All through traffic will use Issa Way to the junction of Newfield Drive, with residents and businesses continuing to use Blackamoor Road for access only.

"The new traffic signals at Roman Road/Newfield Drive/Issa Way aren't just quite ready yet, so temporary lights will be in operation until they are commissioned.

"The existing signals at Blackamoor Road/Stopes Brow will continue to operate as normal, but we will be disconnecting the signal heads on Blackamoor Road as these will no longer be required."

The multi-million pound highway, named after EG Group founders Mohsin and Zuber who in October last year took over supermarket giant Asda, will connect Blackamoor Road to Roman Road, opening up land around Fishmoor Reservoir for housing and other development.
