A NEW lane will not be created at one of Rossendale's busiest junctions, a meeting has heard.
Rossendale's Lancashire Local meeting was told a review of traffic flow at the Tup Bridge junction, Rawtenstall, by Lancashire County Council had found there would be no benefit in adding a right-turn lane to ease tailbacks.
Councillors Christine Gill and Janet Graham said the junction of the A682 St Mary's Way, Burnley Road with Newchurch Road and Haslingden Old Road, was particularly busy during school runs.
Coun Graham said: "I have never seen so many near-misses there. People don't indicate to turn right until the lights go green and then people behind them need to get out into the next lane to get past."
Coun Duncan Ruddick added: "It's an absolute mess. I think we have all been stuck there at some point."
John Burgess, from the county council, spoke at this week's meeting, confirming council bosses will not be carrying out improvements in the area as the budget was lacking.
He said: "Since the last report we have done a further assessment. We are not totally convinced that providing a right turn would provide a great deal of benefit."
