A THIEF who stole three bottles of wine at 6.30am put two down when he was confronted by security staff, a court was told.

Burnley magistrates heard how "desperate" former drug addict Raja Khan took the other bottle outside the town's Asda and dropped it.

The court was told how the defendant had an extensive record for shoplifting and was said to have stolen wine from the store just days before.

His latest crime meant he offended while on bail and flouted bail conditions as he was banned from the shop.

Khan, 43, of Kent Street, Burnley, admitted theft and was bailed for a pre-sentence report.
