The annual celebrations of all things Lancashire is just around the corner, and people across the county will be raising a glass for the Red Rose.

This year, there is a new campaign to highlight the day and celebrate life in Lancashire.

The campaign is asking people to tag their pictures and videos taken on November 27 to fill social media with images from the area.

All images and videos tagged with '#LancashireDay' will be in with the chance of winning a collection of Lancashire goodies including an overnight stay at the Winckley Square Hotel in Preston or a meal out at MasterChef's Oli Martin's restaurant.

Rachel McQueen, Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire said: “This Lancashire Day we ask all Lancastrians to share their Saturday in Lancashire.

"Supporting our high streets, independent retailers, markets and farm shops makes a huge difference to our communities – now more than ever.

“We want to share a day in the life of Lancashire, to demonstrate how much the culture, history and character of the county means to us and, on the day that’s dedicated to all things Lancastrian, we hope the whole county will join in.”

The 2020 Lancashire Day campaign focused on sending virtual hugs as Covid restrictions were in force across the country.

Despite this, over 147 million people in 846 locations across the world took part.

What is Lancashire Day?

Lancashire Day is celebrated on November 27 each year to commemorate the day when Lancashire first sent representatives to Parliament in 1295.

It was the first time elected representatives attended the Model Parliament of King Edward I.

During formal occasions on the day, "Long live our noble Duke", an unofficial Lancashire anthem variant of "God Save the Queen" is often sung in respect to the Duke of Lancaster who is always the reigning monarch.

Lancashire Day Proclamation

The Lancashire Proclamation is read out by town criers across the country on November 27.

It reads:

To the people of the city and county palatine of Lancaster

Greetings!

Know ye that this day, November 27th in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty One, the 70th year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Duke of Lancaster, is

Lancashire Day

Know ye also, and rejoice, that by virtue of Her Majesty's County Palatine of Lancaster, the citizens of the Hundreds of Lonsdale, North and South of the Sands, Amounderness, Leyland, Blackburn, Salford and West Derby are forever entitled to style themselves Lancastrians.

Throughout the County Palatine, from the Furness Fells to the River Mersey, from the Irish Sea to the Pennines, this day shall ever mark the people's pleasure in that excellent distinction - true Lancastrians, proud of the Red Rose and loyal to our Sovereign Duke.

GOD BLESS LANCASHIRE
AND GOD SAVE THE QUEEN,
DUKE OF LANCASTER.

There will be lots of events happening throughout Lancashire to celebrate the day and people are being encouraged to visit their local town, high street and shops to support the local area.
