NO CHARGES will be brought over the death of a father-of-two after police said his head injuries were caused in a fall.

Officers said they believed Vincent Biriny, 27, had fallen and hit his head on the kerb following a New Year's Eve party in Accrington Old Road, Burnley.

Police are now compiling a file for the coroner to hold an inquest.

Detectives had initially launched an investigation after describing Mr Biriny's death as unexplained.

At that time they said Mr Biriny, an electrician, had been involved in a dispute shortly before he fell.

The former Towneley High student, who has two younger brothers and two sisters, was at a friend's house party with brother Michael, 21, when he fell.

Mr Biriny, who split his time between his mum's in Nairne Street and his partner's home, was taken to the Blackburn Royal Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital with severe head injuries.

The family made the decision to turn off the life support on Saturday January 5 after doctors told them he had suffered severe brain damage.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Withers, who led the investigation, said: "The evidence we have indicates that he sustained the head injuries when fell onto the kerb.

"No further action will be taken because the evidence indicates there are no suspicious circumstances.

"We have interviewed numerous witnesses and the file of evidence will be passed to the coroner."

Mr Biriny leaves two children with partner Charlotte Jorgensen: Thomas, four, and Victoria, 16 months.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into Mr Biriny's death.
