Adrenaline junkies should head to Blackpool later this month as a 213 foot high ride is coming to the coastal town for the festive season.
The mammoth Star Flyer ride is Europe’s largest travelling aerial ride and it’s coming to Winter Gardens Wonderland from the 19th November to the 2nd January.
Located in St John's Square outside the Winter Gardens Complex, the huge ride will transport you up to a whopping 65 metres high, which is nearly half the height of the Blackpool Tower, before spinning your seat around with nothing but air beneath you.
If you can stomach heights and are brave enough to be taken to the dizzying altitude, then you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of Blackpool from the top of the ride.
Some people can’t wait to brave the ride- others aren’t quite so eager.
Adam Kean said: “No chance of getting me on this. Went on one a few years ago absolutely hated it. The views will be amazing.”
“I don't fancy dying before Christmas, thanks,” Lee Barratt said.
Paul Martin said: “I feel sick just looking at that. My fear of heights and falling out, just knocks me sick, so I'll bypass thanks”.
A spokesperson from Blackpool Promotions who are putting on the Winter Gardens Wonderland event said: "This is a very first for Lancashire, this ride is not something you see every day – previously appearing at fairgrounds and Christmas markets across Europe and around the globe so for us to secure it for Blackpool is a very special thing, we are incredibly proud to have this for the resort during the festive season."
If you aren’t brave enough to go on the huge ride then there are plenty of other events festive taking place at Blackpool Winter Gardens this Christmas.
With Bavarian Style Christmas Chalets, Winter Gardens Wonderland will spread right throughout the resort, both inside the historic Grade II listed Winter Gardens and outside in the main square and surrounding streets.
Featuring a magnificent Santa’s Grotto, state of the art VR Experiences, Photo snow domes, superb fairground and live entertainment, with retail traders selling an array of quality products.
Outside will feature food and drink traders as well as other limited numbers of general traders.
Winter Gardens Wonderland will feature its very own magical Santa's Grotto complete with live animated reindeer to make your visit even more special!
Children are charged at £15, and visits include a free standard gift plus a photo and frame for every child.
John Westhead, head of operations for Blackpool Promotions said: ‘’ I am extremely excited for this event, it is something I have envisioned for Blackpool for a very long time. Being Blackpool born and bred, the thought of a large scale Christmas market event is incredibly exciting and I am thrilled to be bringing this to the resort along with the magic and wonder to make this Christmas one to remember’’
