ON a weekend that will likely be remembered for its well documented ugly scenes - there were largely stories of success, enjoyment and good behaviour.

One such success was the display at Witton Park, Blackburn, on Saturday night (November 6), hosted by charitable trust, Blackburn Round Table.

A spokesperson for the trust said: "The Blackburn Bonfire isn't just organised by ourselves, Blackburn Lions and Blackburn Rotary who all volunteered to help.

"Wood was donated by local companies and delivered to the park on the Thursday before the event when building the bonfire commences.

"Building continues during Friday and usually is finished by the end of the day, but this year, due to the amount of wood supplied, the bonfire building was completed on Saturday morning.

"We’re greatly appreciative of the local businesses who supply us with wood as without them there wouldn’t be a bonfire which is the biggest in the area."

"The bonfire was lit at 7:30pm followed by a 15-minute firework display which started at 8pm.

"There was plenty of fun to be had on the funfair and there was live entertainment with local band, 'Drive'.

"The money raised on the night is split between the three organisations who distribute this to local charities and groups throughout the year."

Blackburn Round Table is part of Round Table Britain & Ireland aimed at men aged 18 to 45.

They organise social events throughout the year, from gliding, karting, sailing, rifle shooting to ten pin bowing as well as weekends away.

In addition to that we do community events such as the bonfire and the annual Santa’s Sleigh in December.

They also get involved with community projects, and helped with decorating rooms for Nightsafe.
