A notorious comedian who is famed for his controversial jokes and outspoken humour is heading to Blackburn’s Empire Theatre.

Royston Vasey, or Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown as he is better known, is coming back to the theatre on Friday 14 January for a one-off show.

Currently, it’s the only Lancashire date and there are plenty of tickets available.

A Blackburn Empire Theatre spokesperson said: “Roy Chubby Brown is back and he’s as naughty as ever.

“30 totally different DVDs in 30 years, thousands of live shows worldwide, four books, countless original songs and millions of fans are testimony to the fact that he is Britain’s King of Comedy.”

However, the show is strictly for over 18s and people are being asked to stay away if they are easily offended.

The comedian hit headlines earlier this year after council bosses cancelled his performances following backlash and protests.

In October, there were calls to cancel his show at a venue in Wolverhampton with council bosses saying that it was a mistake to book the comedian in the first place.

The stand-up was also due to appear at Sheffield City Hall next year but the performance was axed.

An online petition calling for the event to be reinstated has accrued more than 32,000 signatures.

Tour manager, Ritchie Hoyle, defended the comic and said: I have worked with Royston Vasey on the Roy Chubby Brown show for over 30 years but here’s a little insight into Royston Vasey, the actual person and my friend, not the act.

“I have genuinely never met a more generous, caring, selfless person in my life. Roy has helped charities for years donating thousands of pounds and has never once asked for any credit or media coverage, he’s just happy to help those not as fortunate and to try make their lives easier any way he can.

"If the people who are objecting to Roy’s act did just 10 per cent of what Roy does for their communities a lot of people would be a lot better off. “
