An annual scarecrow trail has raised around £600 for the British Legion.

Fernhurst and Oakdale Scarecrow Trail is in its second year after residents rallied together in 2020 to find a way of keeping the children happy during a Halloween under Covid restrictions.

The first year was such a success that the locals decided to come together again and make it an annual event.

Over 38 households took part and the event helped raise money for the British Legion.

Organiser, Amy Rhodes said: “It was a successful day despite the weather. It was an amazing turnout – hundreds turned up.

“We started this in lockdown as a bit of fun but this year we have raised money and it was even bigger than before.

“We look forward to next year which we hope will be even bigger.”

The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn were the judges of the scarecrow competition, with Karen Ivinson with her Captain Jack Sparrow scarecrow taking the top prize.

Jackie Bond and her Arachnophobia Zombie scarecrow took second prize while Nic Wareing with the Gruffalo won third place.

There were prizes up for grabs for the families that found the most scarecrows and also 20 runner-up prizes of Halloween goodies.
