Two men have been arrested following a burglary at a Co-op store.

Police were called to the supermarket, on Weeton Road in Wesham, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The cigarette cabinet was targeted and the suspects were seen to leave in a Mitsubishi car.

Following a number of proactive enquiries by police, the vehicle was found on Grange Park on Wednesday evening.

A short time later two men – aged 41 and 42 and both from Blackpool – were arrested on suspicion of burglary at a nearby address.

The 42-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of making off without payment and possession with intent to supply a class B drug.

They remain in custody at this time.

Police believe these men are also linked to other burglaries in the area which are of a similar nature.

Chief Supt Karen Edwards of West Division said: "As divisional commander for the West of the county I want criminals to know that this area is not a soft touch for those intent on committing criminal activity.

"My dedicated teams of police officers will do everything possible to investigate offences such as this.

"We will come and track down burglars, arrest the offenders and search their properties, to ensure we bring them to justice.

"I welcome the arrests in this case, which came as a result of committed police work.

"I would encourage anybody who is aware of criminal activity in their area to contact police on 101, knowing that we will take the appropriate action."
