THREE people were treated for inhaling toxic fumes after a fire extinguisher was set off in a house in Burnley.
A police spokesman said a man was later issued with a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly in connection with the incident.
Police and fire crews were called to the house in Hawk Street at 6.45pm on Sunday after a 999 call reporting two people trapped in a cellar.
They had managed to escape from the cellar before fire crews arrived.
But firefighters said that a fire extinguisher containing CO2 had been set off causing the people to be dazed and confused.
They were treated for toxic fume inhalation at the scene along with a police officer who had entered the house.
The house was evacuated so it could be ventilated to make it safe.
