VOLUNTEER parents who refurbished the playground of their children's school over the summer are fundraising to provide a games area.
The parent teacher association at St Mary's RC Primary, Osbaldeston, renovated the school’s playground over the holidays but are now crowdfunding to bring in more money to add a multi-use games area.
The mums and dads have already fixed and attached new grips to the climbing frame, Head of the PTA Natasha Wilson said that a group of parents came together spending every weekend over the summer holidays restoring the play area to its former glory.
She said: “The school playground was in disrepair prior to the summer holidays.
“We managed to get a group of parents together who, on their own, funded to put it back to what it was like many years ago.
“We are hoping to raise enough money now to build a multi-use sport area to give the children more space to play and have fun.”
The parents fixed the climbing frame, installed concrete posts, painted the woodwork, swept the tarmac, trimmed the hedges as well as several other jobs over the seven weekends.
Headteacher Maria Coulthard said: “It looks a lot better. You can see on the climbing frame where the new grips have gone.
“It has provided a place for the children to play on. You can definitely see what has been done.”
Natasha is organising a community bonfire night, a Santa sleigh and has set up a GoFundMe page in a bid to find a further £40,000.
The PTA of the school, which has 89 pupils, is hosting the community bonfire event at St Mary’s Catholic Church, next door to the school, on Thursday November 4. The bonfire will start at 6pm.
They are also organising a Santa sleigh event on December 12 between 2pm and 4pm at the school car park.
There will be refreshments and music as well as an opportunity to meet Santa and get a gift.
