A MEETING is being held tonight to discuss a proposed road closure that village residents claim will leave them cut-off from the nearest town.

The special meeting at Chipping Village Hall, Garstang Road, starts at 8pm and has been prompted by United Utilities' (UU) plans to close a long stretch of Longridge Road for up to six months from February 18.

The road is the main link between Chipping and Longridge and UU said the closure was needed to repair a long section of water main.

Graham Wilkinson, chairman of Chipping parish council, said representative from UU, Lancashire County Council and Balfour Beatty would be at the meeting.

He added: "This road is our lifeline and the closure will be a total disruption for all of us. It's going to be a real problem for all those kids who go to school in Longridge and there are worries about what emergency services will do for access."
