A MOBILE fish and chip van from East Lancashire starred on the famous cobbles of Coronation Street on Friday night (October 8).
The Country Fried van – which can always be found trading in and around Ribble Valley villages like Langho, Sabden and Mellor Brook – was being used by Zeedan Nazir as part of a fierce battle for custom between his formerly-owned Speed Daal and the Bistro.
Zeedan returned to the street in September and made a plan to have a ‘promotional tasting night’.
However, when Debbie from the Bistro got wind of his idea, she tried her best to sabotage his evening.
When Zeedan realised how bad the bookings had been for his tasting, he headed out to drum up some more interest and teach Debbie a lesson.
Later, Yasmeen and Alya broke the news to Zeedan that while they’d had a number of last-minute bookings, the chef had called in sick. It is at this point Zeedan hires a food van – the Country Fried chippy van – from the Ribble Valley.
Owner Simon Mathews said: “It came about through a group that I am part of. I was approached by ITV, they came to have a look at the van and then said it was exactly what they were after.
“It was a really great experience and they were very good to us, they even let us put our own branding back on the van and then have media pictures taken outside the Rovers Return.
“It was all a bit surreal to be honest watching them film using our van, but we were so pleased to have it featured on a show as big as Corrie!”
Country Fried pride themselves on being a sustainable company, using only recyclable and biodegradable packaging and Mr Mathews’ wife, Helen – who helps with the running of Country Fried – explained more about how the business operates.
She said: “While we operate mainly in Ribble Valley villages by pitching up and selling our food to customers who come and find us, we go further than just that.
“We are available to be booked for parties, corporate events, trade events and even weddings. All people need to do is give us a call or drop us a message and we will always try to ensure that our customers are happy with whatever it is they request.”
